The news that Harper Lee was going to publish a ‘new’ novel 55 years after To Kill a Mockingbird sent the internet into a frenzy seven weeks ago. Since then there have been articles every week about the writer and Go Set a Watchman. How excited was I this morning then when, as I waited for a train, an email arrived in my inbox telling me that the jacket would be revealed today?
And here it is:
First thoughts – I love the colours, particularly the variations of orange. It’s very striking. I like the nod to To Kill a Mockingbird too as the two books are obviously closely related. I particularly love that the bird and the branch are silhouetted, they stand out against that bright background. Most of all though, it’s made me really excited to read what’s going to be behind such a bold, confident jacket.
What do you think of it?
I really like it, I think it’s very dramatic. My only slight quibble is that the title reads confusingly at first glance (or maybe it’s just me after a long work day!)

No, I can see that. They’re obviously making it clear who she is/why you might have heard of her if you’re a ‘casual’ reader/browser.

Well, I like it better than the sombre cover we’ll get in the U.S….

The US cover’s out there, I quite like it though it’s not as bright as this one…

I like it. It echos the book and it reminds me of a 60s book cover.

That is a genius way of putting the two books together!. Thank you, @naomifrisby, for sharing this!

Love it! To me there’s a hint of menace in the silhouette and that appeals – I did TKAMB for Olevel – and can’t wait to read this …

I love it, can’t wait to get my copy. I shall read it right away although my book group have already selected it for August.
